JOB DESCRIPTION
POST TITLE Care Assistant/Escort
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Enablers
RESPONSIBLE FOR: N/A
PURPOSE OF POST
To assist in providing care and support to service users.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 To attend to users' personal care needs, giving physical and emotional support, assist their mobility (including lifting and handling, using appropriate aids, whilst respecting the rights, dignity and privacy of the individual). For which training will be given.@
2 To support the provision of a varied and interesting programme of activities within the Centre and in the community.
3 To take an active part in staff meetings, supervision sessions, training sessions and appraisal
4 To undertake and satisfactorily complete the training required to perform your duties to a high level.
Other tasks within the remit of the job may be required from time to time.
The job description will be kept under review to ensure it remains up-to-date
The job holder will be consulted about any proposed changes
PERSON SPECIFICATION - Care Assistant/Escort
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
1 SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Ability to work in a staff team in co-operation with others and to share expertise and experience
Understanding of choice, independence, dignity and rights as applicable to people with disabilities
Ability to communicate effectively with people who use the service, their families and carers and people from other agencies
Ability to attend to service users' personal care needs, assist their mobility and give them physical and emotional support.
Ability to organise, deliver and record a range of activities.
Understanding of equal opportunities and ability to work within Teesside Ability Support Centre’s equal opportunities policy and procedures
2 EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Care certificate or Diploma/NVQ in care desirable.
3 EXPERIENCE
Experience related to main areas of the job description but including working with adults with physical and/or learning disabilities in a residential or day service
4 OTHER
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as the service develops.
